Ten DFM Checks That Reduce PCB Assembly Cost Before Quotation

Aug, 2026

Design for Manufacturing is most effective when applied before a PCB design is frozen and submitted for quotation. Revco Products’ white paper, Ten DFM Checks That Cut PCB Assembly Cost Before You Quote, explains how design decisions made during layout and component selection directly affect fabrication yield, assembly throughput, test coverage, sourcing stability and box-build labor. Identifying problems during design can prevent engineering queries, tooling changes, line stoppages, rework, scrap and costly respins after material and production resources have already been committed.

The paper presents 10 practical DFM checks spanning the complete manufacturing process, including bare-board geometry, panelization, land patterns, component spacing, thermal balance, stencil apertures, through-hole compatibility, test access, connector and harness integration, and BOM health. Together, these checks help engineering and sourcing teams improve first-pass yield, preserve automated processing and reduce supply-chain risk. The central recommendation is to involve the manufacturing partner while the design is still editable, when cost drivers can be corrected quickly and with minimal impact on the program schedule or budget.

New Equipment Alert! In-Line Destacker

April 8th, 2026

We recently expanded automation at Revco Products Inc. with the addition of another In-Line Destacker from Mycronic, now fully integrated into our SMT line.

Already in operation, the added Destacker increases throughput consistency, reduces manual board handling, and improves line balance across mixed-volume builds. Automating the loading process enhances repeatability and helps maintain tighter process control at the front end of assembly.

Technology is only as strong as the team behind it. We are proud of our SMT engineers who continue optimizing our lines and driving continuous improvement.
